Under Law No. 5996, businesses producing, processing and storing food must obtain either a business registration certificate or an approval certificate, depending on their activity. Businesses producing food of animal origin are subject to approval; those processing plant products are generally subject to registration. If exporting, the health certificate requirements of the destination country must also be assessed.
Requirements
- The business meeting physical, hygiene and technical conditions
- Employment of a food engineer, agricultural engineer or veterinarian
- Establishment of a HACCP-based food safety management system
- Completion of water analysis, waste management and environmental permits
- For exports, destination country approval and exporters' association membership
